Welcome to Witney Carnival

This year we’re running things differently due to the pandemic. In place of the traditional full carnival, we are bringing you a scaled-back event, The Witney Big Family Picnic. This is a free, family-friendly event that we’re sure you’ll enjoy while we make plans to relaunch the Witney Carnival in 2022.

Saturday 10th July 2021
The Witney Big Family Picnic

12pm – 5pm at The Leys Recreation Ground.

Cancellation of Witney Big Family Picnic 10th July 2021 on the Leys.

The organising committee for the Big family Picnic due to take place on 10th July 2021 is sorry to announce that the event has been cancelled.

The reason for the cancellation is that Covid19 restrictions will still be in place on the date of the event. The cornerstone of the planning for Big Family Picnic was that all government restrictions relating to Covid19 would be lifted on June 21st.

Sadly, as I am sure you will have seen, the Prime Minister announced on Monday 14th June that the current restrictions will be in place for another month.

Can I take this opportunity to thank our sponsors, traders and the public for their support for this Event.

We intend to reconvene the Witney Carnival Committee in September to plan a super Carnival Event for 2022.

Food and Refreshments

As a picnic event, you are encouraged to bring your own food and drink but there will be a few food outlets, beer, Prosecco, a tea tent, and The Coffee Shed, for anyone without.

There will be several attractions, particularly for children, including the ever-popular Smiley Train.

There will be a live music stage featuring bands, many of them local, playing a mix of family-friendly tunes.

Witney Lions Club

The Carnival is now the largest community family event in the town. Preparations start well before the actual day. The day before the Carnival our members erect 6 x 12m marquees and two gazebos. Who would have thought that the Witney Lions Fun Run, with a few trade and charity stalls, would grow into Witney Carnival?

Our Club has now achieved 47 years of continuous service to the local community and as members of Lions International, we are part of the largest organisation in the world.

Witney Round Table

Last year’s Carnival was another great success not only giving thousands of people a wonderful day out but also raising money for local charities and good causes. The Round Table works closely with the Rotary Club, Lions Club and Air training Corps in the spirit of giving something back to the community.

We are proud members of the organising committee for the carnival and usually arrange the Donkey Derby and rides. We’re also known for organising the Witney Beer Festival and Christmas Santa Sleigh. We welcome new members.

2120 (Witney) Squadron

2120 (Witney) Squadron is proud to be involved with the Witney Carnival. This year our cadets will help by acting as guides, picking up litter and, most importantly, as bodies to help whenever they are needed. We have been working with young people in the town for many years and today’s cadets continue to be an important part of the community.

Our cadets are members of one of the biggest youth groups in the country and cadets are able to enjoy a wide range of activities including Flying Scholarships, public services, sports or adventure training.

The Rotary Club of Witney

Our aim is to provide an annual event which is free and which can be enjoyed by the whole family. The Procession is always a colourful attraction and there is lots of entertainment, for all ages, on the Leys.

All the profits made from the stalls and other attractions are used to support the local community. This year we hope to be running our ever-popular Prosecco and Pimm’s Bar and Burger stall.
