Welcome to Witney Carnival

This year we’re running things differently due to the pandemic. In place of the traditional full carnival, we are bringing you a scaled-back event, The Witney Big Family Picnic. This is a free, family-friendly event that we’re sure you’ll enjoy while we make plans to relaunch the Witney Carnival in 2022.

Saturday 9th July 2022

12pm – 5pm at The Leys Recreation Ground.

Food and Refreshments

As a picnic event, you are encouraged to bring your own food and drink but there will be a few food outlets, beer, Prosecco, a tea tent, and The Coffee Shed, for anyone without.

There will be several attractions, particularly for children, including the ever-popular Smiley Train.

There will be a live music stage featuring bands, many of them local, playing a mix of family-friendly tunes.

Dog Show

The Dog Show, held under the Kennel Club rules and regulations, is a popular feature at the carnival.

Donkey Derby

The Donkey Derby is one of the main attractions of Witney Carnival. There are six races leading to a grand final, that feature all the winners from the previous races.

Trade and Craft Stalls

The Leys is a hive of activity throughout the afternoon. We have our regular local supporters of the carnival who supply the beer, food and ice cream sales.

Become a Sponsor

Witney Carnival is a large undertaking organised by the local Rotary Club, Lions Club, Round Table and Royal Air Force Air Cadets. It is only possible to achieve all this because of the generous contributions from local businesses and other supporters.

Become a Seller

If you have a stall or wish to exhibit and would like to join us at the Carnival, remember that our FREE entry means everyone has more money to spend on your stall. Pitches are 5m x 5m with parking for one vehicle behind each stall.

The Procession

The carnival kicks off with the Procession through the centre of Witney town, watched by thousands! It attracts all sorts from steam engines to marching bands to cycle clubs and of course our local school children.
